FC Halifax Town: Tony happy to win ugly
IN an ideal world, Tony Barras would love Town to entertain the Shay fans every time they walk onto the pitch.
But the Halifax skipper knows that points on the board in the final nine games of the season will count for far more than attractive football.
And he was delighted to emerge from Tuesday's game against Harrogate Railway with a maximum haul after a run of three draws and a defeat.
"From the point of view of the home fans we want to play well," he said. "But I would rather play badly every week and win.
"It was vital that we won. The manager wants us to go on a run and win ever game between now and the end of the season.
"Some of the teams around us are slipping up a little bit and maybe they are having their bad time of the season.
"Our main focus is on Saturday when we will be bidding to beat Woodley and then we will turn or thoughts to the trip to Newcastle."
Town began the game in midweek as though they were going to sweep the Harrogate challenge aside.
But they took their foot off the gas and allowed the visitors to get back into the contest before eventually holding on for a 2-1 victory.
"In the first half we carried on from Saturday with the type of play we have only shown bits and bobs of all season," said Barras.
"We relaxed, Harrogate got on top of us and we maybe panicked - but we got the win."
With an already lengthy injury list, the last thing Town can afford is to lose any more players.
But Junior Brown missed the Harrogate game with a sore hamstring and Cavell Coo limped out of the action early in the second half.
"We have been unbelievably unlucky with injuries this season," said Barras. "And they have been real ones with players suffering little twists and the like.
"I have never known anything like it in all the time I have been playing."
Woodley Sports won last night's only Unibond One North match by 3-2 at Clitheroe.
Skelmersdale are in action this evening when they entertain Mossley, knowing a win would lift them back into the play-off places.
