FC Halifax Town: Town have to be ruthless
FC Halifax Town boss Jim Vince is demanding that his side are ruthless and aggressive when they take on Silsden in their FA Cup preliminary round replay at Cougar Park tonight (7.45).
Town were the better side in the goalless first game at the Shay on Saturday but were unable to find the breakthrough that would have taken them into the next round.
Now they have to take their chance in a game that will be settled this evening even if it takes extra time and penalties.
"We have been given another opportunity to get into the next round," said Vince. "And we have got to be ruthless and aggressive.
"We have to play with a steely determination - and we have got to take our chances.
"It is important that we give nothing away early and if we make sure we are focused and we maintain our discipline it should see us through."
Vince is clearly taking nothing for granted as he prepares his players for tonight's game against the North West Counties Premier Division outfit.
"Silsden are dangerous," he said. "They are disciplined, they work hard for each other and they get the ball into areas where they can create chances.
"There are no givens in cup games and we have to perform to a level that is good enough to win the game.
"I have watched a video of Saturday's game and we should have won.
"People left the game disappointed that we have not beaten a team from a lower league.
"But they had a bit of luck and hopefully that will be reversed tonight."
The Cougar Park pitch, not the best for football, could well be a factor in this evening's encounter.
And Vince is ready to take the surface into account as he aims for a first qualifying round trip to Northern League Ryton.
"The way we play will be effective," said Vince. "But we may have to modify our play to ensure we progress."
Vince has a major doubt over striker Neil Ross who has a swollen knee.
But he welcomes back Craig Smith to his squad after the left sided player was unavailable for Saturday's game between the sides.
