FC Halifax Town: Two new opponents for Shaymen

FC Halifax Town will face two new sides - and meet up with familiar foes - in Unibond One North next season, with the division expanding to 22 clubs.

The league have confirmed that AFC Fylde and Prescot Cables will join the league along with Leigh Genesis, formerly RMI, who the Shaymen played in their Conference days.

Rossendale United have been spared relegation, despite finishing bottom, due to the expansion of the division.

AFC Fylde began life as Kirkham & Wesham FC and won the FA Vase in 2008 when they beat Lowestoft Town 2-1 at Wembley.

Prescot Cables play at the 3,200-capacity Hope Street - a ground in stark contract to Leigh whose state of the art stadium at Leigh Sports Village holds 10,000.

Birkenhead-based Cammell Laird, who lost their appeal against a decision by the UniBond League board to relegate them from the Premier Division on Ground Grading rules, have been placed in Unibond One South.

Unibond One North: AFC Fylde, Bamber Bridge, Chorley, Clitheroe, Colwyn Bay, Curzon Ashton, FC Halifax Town, Garforth Town, Harrogate Railway, Lancaster City, Leigh Genesis, Mossley, Ossett Albion, Prescot Cables, Radcliffe Borough, Rossendale United, Salford City, Skelmersdale United, Trafford, Wakefield, Warrington Town, Woodley Sports.

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has been ruled out of England's World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Andorra with a foot injury.

Aston Villa winger James Milner has been called up from the England Under-21 squad as the replacement for Carrick.

Milner's inclusion brings the total number of Villa players in the squad to four.

Carrick played alongside Ryan Giggs in central midfield for United in their 2-0 Champions League final defeat to Barcelona.

His absence is not expected to hamper England coach Fabio Capello unduly as he prepares for the games, against Kazakhstan in Almaty on Saturday, then Andorra at Wembley the following Wednesday.

Maximum points should all but make England's place at the 2010 World Cup safe.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has reiterated his intention to retain Xabi Alonso in his squad for next season.

The Spanish midfielder has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, however Benitez stressed there is no deal in place and has questioned whether Alonso, contracted until 2012, would even be interested in a move.
