FC Halifax Town v Harrogate Railway: Dean can't stop scoring

JAMES Dean pledged during the break for the recent bad weather that he would not be knocked out of his scoring stride - and he has been true to his word.

His 32nd goal of the season at Boston in Tuesday's League Cup clash may not have been one of his most important of the season.

But it maintained the big striker's fine run of form since the recent break for the big freeze.

Dean has featured in five of the six matches Town have played since they returned to action and he has scored in each of them.

The run started with a hat-trick against Bamber Bridge and he has not looked back.

"We worked hard during the break and in the first game back I got an early goal and finished up with a hat-trick," he said.

"It has just carried on from there and now I am looking to score in every game I play.

"The good thing is that the goals have come when we have needed them and have helped take the pressure off the lads at the back."

Dean started on the bench at York Street and by the time he was introduced into the action, the Shaymen were three goals down.

"Watching the game in the first half was strange," he said. "To come on 3-0 down, it is hard to get going.

"We scored to get it back to 3-1 and looked a bit more lively, like we were the top team.

"But you have to keep working hard no matter what the score is.

"You can't let your heads go down because the young lads are looking to you."

On the face of it, a 5-2 hammering might be seen as a major blow to a side.

But with manager Neil Aspin ringing the changes, Dean does not think that defeat to the Premier Division high flyers will have any detrimental effect on the Shaymen as they prepare to return to league action at home to Harrogate Railway on Saturday.

"We had six or seven missing on Tuesday and everyone knows what the focus is on - the league," he said.

"We will be back in training tonight, sorting everything out and getting our game plan.

"Come Saturday we know what we need to do - pick up three points, nothing less."

The Football Conference are debating the fate of crisis club Chester after their failure to play two Blue Square Premier fixtures.

Talks continued last night with a decision scheduled to be made today and the club facing expulsion from the league.

Chester, who went into the season with a 25-point deduction, pulled out of the game against Forest Green Rovers on Tuesday and were forced to call off the derby with Wrexham on Sunday.

That latest scenario occurred because the local authority issued a prohibition notice on the Deva Stadium after police refused to man the game.
