FC Halifax Town v Newcastle Blue Star: Ajay's Blue Star target
LOAN striker Ajay Leitch-Smith is hoping to be available for FC Halifax Town's Shay clash with Newcastle Blue Star on Saturday.
The youngster missed last weekend's 1-0 defeat at Rossendale United after suffering a hamstring injury.
But that break might enable him to face the Tynesiders as the Shaymen bid to get back to winning ways after their first defeat in 11 Unibond One North outings.
"I trained on Thursday, but rested half way through the session hoping that I could play," said Leitch-Smith.
"I rested again on Friday, but it was still not right at the weekend.
"I would rather have missed last weekend's game and be ready again on Saturday than play and be out for three or four weeks.
"It was a bit tight after the game against Chorley. I trained on Monday and Tuesday and had a day off on Wednesday, but it got worse."
Leitch-Smith only arrived at the Shay 10 days ago on a month's loan, making his debut in the 3-0 victory over Chorley.
And he admitted that he had found it tougher than he thought he would against the Magpies
"It was a lot harder that I had expected," he said. "I hadn't played for a few weeks so physically I found it hard.
"The manager wanted me to find a bit of space in the first half playing behind the front two and linking play.
"But the way Chorley were playing, I couldn't find the space."
Leitch-Smith settled into life at Halifax quickly and watched his teammates in action at Rossendale.
He was back among familiar faces having played with Junior Brown in the Crewe youth team and trained with Cavell Coo at under 16 level.
He also had the advantage of following Colin Daniel to the Shay from Gresty Road on a month's loan earlier in the campaign.
"Colin said he enjoyed his time here and that the team was good," said Leitch-Smith.
FC Halifax Town will get a chance to avenge last weekend's defeat at Rossendale after the return clash with the Lancashire outfit was brought forward from April 18 to Saturday, December 13.
The reason for the change is that the Shaymen's original opposition on that day, Skelmersdale United, are through to the first round of the Trophy.
