FC Halifax Town v Ossett Albion: High aims for 2009
BOSS Jim Vince is looking for his Halifax Town side to back up their win over Radcliffe Borough last weekend with victory in the Boxing Day derby against Ossett Albion at the Shay (3.0).
The Shaymen moved back to the top of the Unibond One North table when they beat Borough 4-1 at Stainton Park.
And another three points on Friday against third-placed Albion will guarantee they go into 2009 at the top of the tree.
"It was a good win at Radcliffe and we need to back that up with another good performance on Friday," said Vince.
"We need to go on a bit of a run now."
Town lead Bamber Bridge on goal difference going into the Festive programme.
But Vince admitted he had expected a little more from his side in the opening half of the campaign.
"We are just off target," he said. "Just about halfway through the season we have lost five games and my team only lost five in the whole of last season.
"I wish I had the team I have now at the start of the season. We would not have dropped as many points as we did.
"But there are still more than 20 games to go and lots of points to play for. It is up to us."
Albion could have topped the table themselves had they not been held to a draw by Curzon Ashton last weekend.
And Vince is expecting them to give his side a tough test.
"They are third in the league because they are a good team," he said. "But we are better and it is up to us to deliver."
Junior Brown is in contention for a return to the starting line-up on Boxing Day.
He remained on the bench throughout last weekend's win as he recovered from a knock picked up in the home draw with Newcastle Blue Star.
"Junior did not play at Radcliffe as a precaution," he said. "We want him to play, but not at any cost."
Ajay Leitch-Smith would have featured last weekend had he not taken a knock on his calf in training with Crewe 24 hours before the game.
And he is likely to be added to the squad for Friday's clash at which Town are expecting one of their biggest crowds of the season.
The biggest to date was the 1,549 who witnessed the new club's first-ever competitive game against Bamber Bridge in August.
