FC Halifax Town v Prescot Cables: Town keen to make amends for defeat
IT will be an unusual feeling for the Town players when they run out to face Prescot Cables at the Shay tomorrow.
It is the first time this season they will face a side that has beaten them in a league game.
Hot on the heels of only their second defeat of the Unibond One North campaign at Radcliffe, the Shaymen get a chance to avenge the only other defeat they have suffered.
Back in early November, Town travelled to Merseyside with an unbeaten record after 10 league games.
But that came to an end as Prescot won the Hope Street clash 1-0, becoming the first - and do far only - side to prevent Town from scoring in a league game.
Town responded well to the defeat, going the next 13 league games without losing before their game at Stainton Park last weekend.
And they bounced back from that by thrashing Ossett Albion 5-0 at the Shay on Tuesday night.
Away from Merseyside they have managed four victories, the best two coming at top 10 teams Clitheroe and Radcliffe, both by 2-1 scorelines.
They have also picked up maximum points at Salford City and Harrogate Railway.
But they have had a few shockers on the road, crashing 5-0 at leaders Lancaster City and 6-0 at sixth-placed Leigh Genesis.
They were also beaten 1-0 at Rossendale United, giving the bottom club one of only three league wins for the season.
Town have 16 games remaining as they continue their bid for promotion to the Unibond Premier and they will be keen to build another impressive run to help them achieve it.
Prescot may be sitting in mid table, but they are no mugs, especially on home soil where they have also beaten Colwyn Bay and Skelmersdale this season.
Like Town, Prescot were in action on Tuesday night, crashing 3-1 at home to Salford City.
And they picked up only two points from a possible 15 in February from a couple of draws with Mossley.
In fact, since clubs returned to action following the big freeze, Cables have won one in eight and collected six points from 24.
That does not mean the Shaymen can take them lightly, but it does mean that Neil Aspin's side have a great chance of building on the win over Ossett.
Then again, the manager knows that no matter who the opposition are, nothing less than another win will do.
