FC Halifax Town v Retford United: Shaymen are on a mission
BOSS Jim Vince wants his Town side to use tonight's President's Cup third round clash with Retford United at the Shay as a springboard to league success.
Halifax's 2-1 defeat at home to Rossendale United at the weekend extended their current run in Unibond One North to a disappointing one point from three games.
With no points at stake this evening against a side currently second in Unibond One South, Vince is looking for a win to boost the Shaymen ahead of the Christmas and New Year programme.
"We need to get back to winning ways," he said. "And I am sure we will.
"We should have won on Saturday."
Vince has stated his desire to win the competition but has also used it to give some of his fringe players a run.
That could happen tonight with Jon Smith, a second half substitute at the weekend, in line for a start.
"We have a hard core of players who will play tonight because we need to win again," said Vince.
"I thought Jon Smith came on and looked a threat."
Kris King, Luke Hinsley and even Nigel Jemson, a goal scorer against Rossendale, could also feature and centre back Lincoln Adams is available again having served a one-match ban at the weekend.
Left back Paul Collins is available this evening despite only arriving from Woodley Sports on Friday.
He was skipper at the Stockport club and Town officials have checked to make sure he did not play for them against Salford City in the President's Cup back in October.
Woodley won the game on penalties, only to be thrown out of the competition for fielding Adam Morning, who was ineligible having featured in an earlier round for Halifax at Ossett Albion.
Danny Meadowcroft is set to become the second Town player of the season to be handed a suspension.
The central defender, who skippered the side against Rossendale, picked up his fourth booking for the Shaymen in the closing minutes.
That, along with one he received for his previous club Droylsden, took him over five cautions for the season.
Ajay Leitch-Smith has extended his loan at the Shay to a second month.
The striker has played just once for the club since arriving from Crewe and was training with his parent club when he suffered a hamstring injury.
