FC Halifax Town v Salford City: Town run riot at the Shay
FC Halifax Town 7 Salford City 1 Paul Gedman struck twice in a five-goal first half blast as Town completed a comfortable win at the Shay.
Town, who included new signings Scott Phelan and Danny Ellis on the bench, could hardly have made a better start as Kris King fired home from close range inside the opening 60 seconds.
And they doubled their advantage early in the third minute when Gedman finished clinically from 10 yards.
Ashley Stott made it 3-0 with a confident finish after 17 minutes and Gedman bagged his second of the game five minutes later, nodding home from five yards.
Lincoln Adams got in on the act eight minutes before the break when he headed home a Jonathan Smith free kick.
Stott bagged his second of the game - and Town's sixth - two minutes after the break when he turned home a Cavell Coo cross.
Phelan almost marked his debut with a headed goal, but the ball went narrowly wide and Smith almost caught Salford keeper Martin Campbell napping from distance as Town dominated.
Salford bagged an 81st minute consolation when Reece Kelly fired home from a Paul Ennis cross.
But Town had the last word with Nigel Jemson heading home a Smith corner in injury time.
