FC Halifax Town v Sheffield FC: trio to get cup chance

KRIS King, Danny Ellis and Luke Hinsley will get a chance to force their way into the mind of boss Jim Vince when FC Halifax Town entertain Sheffield in a President's Cup second round clash at the Shay tonight (7.45).

The trio have had to be content with places on the bench in recent weeks while those in the team have ensured the side surged to the top of the Unibond One North table.

But Vince has confirmed that they will play against the South Yorkshire outfit and he is looking for them to make the most of it.

"All of them will get a chance tonight," said Vince. "It is a good opportunity for players to get some good minutes on the pitch.

"They have to try to force their way into the team and have a chance to do that."

Vince has not confirmed who will be 'rested' but Junior Brown and Cavell Coo are likely to be among the leading candidates.

The Town boss is hoping to be able to call on the services of striker Ben Wharton who warmed up with the side ahead of the weekend win at Woodley Sports.

"We are hoping to have Ben registered in time so we can have a look at him," said Vince.

"I have not seen him play, but he has looked okay in training and has a good pedigree.

"This is a chance to look at him in a competitive game.

"He may not be right for us, and that might sound a bit harsh but I don't need to sign players who are six weeks away from playing at our level.

"He could get an opportunity tonight. Hopefully he can grab it."

One man unlikely to feature is assistant boss Nigel Jemson who has not played since the County Cup defeat at Wakefield.

"Nigel came to the club to be my assistant and I need him off the pitch at the moment," he said.

"He wants to play and is frustrated that he isn't at the moment, but he did fantastically well for us when was needed."

Whoever plays, Vince has made it clear that he wants Town to advance.

"I want to win this game and I have told the players that," he said. "This is the only competition we are in now apart from the league and we are moving into a period of one game a week.

"We are doing okay as far as getting league games in and can afford progression in this competition."
