FC Halifax Town v Trafford: Baker eager to bag more
TOM Baker bagged his first Town goal in Saturday's 3-3 draw against Newcastle Blue Star at the Shay - and he is eager for more.
The former Bradford Park Avenue midfielder curled a delightful free kick into the top corner to put the Shaymen 2-1 up against the Tynesiders.
And it might have been his second of the game as he had struck the bar with a similar effort in the first half.
"The first one was close so when I got the opportunity to take another in the second half I was confident I could trouble the keeper," said Baker. "Fortunately it went in.
"I have always liked taking free kicks around the edge of the area and am always confident when I strike them."
Despite leading twice against Blue Star, Town had to settle for a point as Danny Ellis bagged an injury time equaliser.
And while disappointed not to have won, Baker was full of praise for the Shaymen's character as they kept battling to the bitter end.
"We felt like we did enough to come away with three points," he said.
"But the way we have to look at it is that we came back from 3-2 down and nicked a goal.
"At the end of the season that could turn out to be a very good point because Newcastle are a good side.
"They will definitely be up there at the end of the season."
Town could have been comfortably in control of the game by the time Newcastle first equalised.
But they had no more than a Paul Gedman strike to show for their early dominance and Baker knows that Halifax have to make the most of periods when they are on top.
"We have to do that," he said. "The team we have now has not been together that long.
"We are getting stronger with each game and we have to push on and look for three points in every game we play. We have a good squad and I feel we will get there."
Skelmersdale have won the Unibond One North team of the month award for November with six wins and a draw from their seven matches.
Town also played seven games last month, winning five, drawing one and losing the other
