FC Halifax Town v Trafford: Town's play off hopes over

FC Halifax Town 2 Trafford 2 Town's play off hopes were finally extinguished as they were held to a draw by Trafford this afternoon.

And just when Town fans thought they has seen everything this season, they were forced to endure a 13-minute delay in the first half the clash at the Shay when the referee suffered an injury.

That meant there had to be a plea for a match official in the crowd to run the line, a call answered by local man Jonathan Hyland.

As for the footballing action, Nathan Joynes glanced a header wide from Junior Brown's sixth minute cross and Joynes turned provider four minutes later, flicking on for Michael Barnes whose shot was saved by Trafford keeper Tom Read.

After the referee's injury delay, Lincoln Adams headed a Cavell Coo cross straight into the keeper's arms.

And a minute before the break Trafford, on a rare attack, took the lead when Andy Lundy nodded home a Simon Woolford free kick.

Town were level three minutes after the break when a Tom Baker shot was judged to have struck a defender on the arm and Nigel Jemson fired home from the penalty spot.

Barnes fired over and Paul Evans sent a free kick off target from a Junior Brown cross as Town went in search of a second.

But it was Trafford who regained the lead in the 65th minute when Scott Barlow dispossessed Junior Brown, cut in from the right and beat Phil Senior at his near post.

Town hit back again two minutes later to make it 2-2 when Tom Baker broke down the right and squared for Barnes to stab home from inside the six yard box.

Barnes had another effort saved by the keeper before Baker forced Read to dive full length to his left to keep out a rasping drive.
