FC Halifax Town v Wakefield: Danny to get Shay chance

DANNY Davidson could be asked to lead the FC Halifax Town attack in tonight's Unibond League Challenge Cup clash with Wakefield at the Shay.

The Greetland-based frontman has made two substitute appearances for the Shaymen including a vital two-goal cameo at Ossett Albion seven days ago.

And manager Jim Vince is keen to have a look at the local man from the start.

"I didn't think it was right to play Danny at Nantwich," said Vince. "But he played half and hour last Tuesday and trained hard on Thursday and Saturday.

"Tonight's game might be a good opportunity for him to show us what he can do."

Vince made nine changes for last week's President's Cup game at Ossett.

And he is contemplating changes to the side that was beaten 4-1 at Nantwich in the FA Cup at the weekend for tonight's game.

"It will be a blended approach," he said. "It is important that we bounce back quickly from Saturday.

"There will be a few changes tonight and the players have to perform.

"I have stuck with the same players over the past few weeks but we did not defend correctly on Saturday and that opens up opportunities.

"Whoever plays well will keep the shirt."

Vince could also start with Scott Phelan, Danny Ellis, Adam Morning and Craig Smith, who were all on the bench in Cheshire, with Phil Senior likely to be in goal.

All three played against Ossett, with Ellis bagging the opening Town goal in a 4-3 win.

One player unlikely to be involved this evening is Ryan Sugden who has joined Northern Counties East Premier Division Liversedge.

The striker returned to the Shay in the summer after spells at Bradford Park Avenue and Farsley Celtic but suffered an injury in pre-season.

He was handed his first start at Ossett last week but failed to impress Vince in the hour he had on the pitch.

"Ryan has gone to Liversedge," said the Shay boss. "It is not fair on him to be playing for us at the moment because he is not ready."
