FC Halifax Town v Warrington Town: Shaymen have to build on FA Cup win

HAVING won so convincingly at Ryton in the FA Cup at the weekend, FC Halifax Town turn their attentions back to improving their league form when Warrington Town pay their first-ever visit to the Shay tonight.

Goals from Paul Gedman (two), Ashley Stott and Adam Morning saw the Shaymen ease into the second qualifying round of the FA Cup.

And that trio - along with the rest of their teammates - will be hoping they can produce a similar performance this evening.

Certainly the Shay faithful deserve something to cheer about having witnessed a couple of goalless draws and a defeat in three games at the ground so far this season.

There were so many promising signs on Tyneside in addition to the fact that they found the back of the net on four occasions.

Skipper Tony Barras made his first-ever competitive appearance for the side as a second half substitute and both newcomers - Gedman and defender Cavell Coo - fitted in straight away.

Justin Walker had his most impressive game in a Town shirt and Peter Moore continued to show what he can do with another solid display on the right hand side of midfield.

The key this evening will be to continue to show the same kind of form - or better - as they seek a first home win of the campaign at the fourth time of asking.

Warrington, who finished 13th in the Unibond League Division One South last season, are currently sitting in mid table in Division One North.

They have played three away games in the league, winning at Chorley, losing 4-1 at Mossley and drawing 3-3 with Bamber Bridge.

Like Town, they were in FA Cup action at the weekend and slipped to a surprise defeat in their clash at Northern Counties League Premier Division Winterton Rangers.

How much that defeat has dented confidence at the Cheshire club remains to be seen.

If it has, Halifax have to take advantage and, with another home game on Saturday against strugglers Salford City, they can really start to make an impact on the division in the coming days.
