FC Halifax Town: Vince blasts prima donnas
BOSS Jim Vince turned on his players as Town slipped quietly out of the Unibond President's Cup with a 2-0 defeat to Retford United at the Shay last night.
Vince had been hoping for a morale boosting victory following three games without a win in the league.
But he ended the night fuming as the Shaymen suffered back to back defeats for the first time this season.
"What a bunch of prima donnas," he said. "They think they are better than they are.
"It was not good and I am absolutely blazing. I am not having another performance like that.
"They are spoilt because we make them feel special and that is all stopping.
"They just thought they could turn up and put the shirt on, but they have to come here, show endeavour and work hard as a team.
"We have got talented players, but the problem was the attitude. We had too many individuals.
"They thought it was easy, making five yard passes. It was like a training exercise.
"Who do these players think they are?"
Vince suggested that the players had not followed instructions as they were comfortably second best to their high flying Unibond One South opponents.
"We encourage the players and give them the information they need," he said.
"You build a team, give them instructions and tell them how you want them to play.
"When they think they know better, that's when we have an issue.
"And there were too many players last night thought they knew better.
"They didn't do it on purpose. They didn't mean to lose the ball or hold onto it too long, but they were lacklustre."
Although there were just 295 inside the Shay to witness the defeat, they made their feeling to the players and management clear.
"I could hear the fans and they were quite right," said Vince.
"If they pay money to come in they are entitled to their opinions even though it was not very constructive.
"The players have to stand up and be counted on this one. I didn't want them to perform like that.
"Was it my fault? I am not having that. It is not my fault.
"The team selected was strong enough to win."
Back up keeper Craig Ellison has been allowed to leave the club while left back Kris King been transfer listed.
TOWN will play their rearranged Unibond One North clash with Trafford, postponed on December 6, at the Shay on April 18.
