Featherstone Rovers v Halifax: Holroyd ready for last hurrah
HALIFAX back rower David Larder believes the guile of veteran stand off Graham Holroyd could hold the key to success in tonight's Co-operative Championship Grand Final qualifier at Featherstone.
Daryl Powell's Rovers have already beaten Fax twice in league action in 2010, limiting Matt Calland's side to just 20 points in 160 minutes.
But with 34-year-old Holroyd, who is counting down to retirement at the end of the season, now installed in the side alongside the Australians Luke Branighan and Ben Black, Fax have an extra option against the Championship's meanest defence.
"Holly's thinking he's got two games left to go now if everything goes well, tonight and the Grand Final, and he will be a big player for us," said Larder, who is likely to revert to the second row to accomodate the returning Sam Barlow at loose forward.
"I think all the halves are massively important, but Graham does give us something different.
"He can certainly open up a gap for the centres or players like me or Sam, and he is very difficult to defend against when he takes the ball right to the line because he nearly always chooses the right option."
