Featherstone Rovers v Halifax: Tamghart aiming to leave on a high

SAID Tamghart has defied medical advice in a bid to crown his two year stint with Halifax with a Grand Final win.

The French forward, who will return to his hometown club Carpentras in 2011 after four years in England - first with Oldham, then with Fax - underwent surgery a month ago to repair a knee injury.

But after returning to competitive action in Fax's final Co-operative Championship match in Toulouse, Tamghart admitted he had comeback ahead of schedule as he aims to improve on last season's loss to Barrow in the competition's decider.

"It's only been four weeks since the operation and the surgeon told me it should be six to eight before I played again," said Tamghart.

"I couldn't wait that long, because the season would already be finished for me.

"I didn't want to finish badly, moving back to France having played for the last time in June.

"I have pushed myself probably a bit too early, but the knee feels fine.

"I played 40 minutes in Toulouse, which will have given me some match fitness, and I just need some extra work in training now before the Featherstone game.

"I was really struggling in the heat, which probably wasn't helping, but I will be better for it.

"To get to the Grand Final, and win it, would be the cherry on the cake for me.

"That's what I want."

Tamghart is a one of a number of confirmed departures from the Shay at the end of the year, with veterans David Wrench and Graham Holroyd already confirming their retirement plans.

There are also question marks over the future of some of the club's overseas contingent, with top scorer Shad Royston and stand off Luke Branighan both linked with a move to Toulouse.

But Tamghart believes that Fax will still be a major player in the Championship next season, and hinted that he could make a temporary return once the French league wraps up in May.

"I think Halifax is a big team," said Tamghart.

"It has been a big team in the past and it will be a big team again in the future.

"They will have a strong side next year and I want to come back to England and to Halifax if I can.

"That's my wish."
