THERE will be the usual closures or reduced hours to shops and services during the Christmas period.

Here is our rundown of what’s open, when, over the Christmas bank holiday weekend.

Supermarkets

Sainsbury’s, Halifax: Christmas Eve: 6am-6pm; Christmas Day: closed; Boxing Day: 10am-5pm; Tuesday 27 December: 9am-7pm; Wednesday 28 December: 8am-10pm.

Calderdale Council

Council offices will be closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and Tuesday 27 December. In the event of an emergency during the holiday period support is available via the Council’s out of hours emergency help line on 0845 1111 137.

Services still available over the holiday period include: Renewing library loans via the library catalogue, commenting on planning applications, paying council tax and invoices, responding to a consultation, reporting problems and requesting services.

Household waste recycling sites

Open daily expect for 25 and 26 December and will operate Sunday opening hours on bank holidays.

Libraries

All libraries are closed on Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 December and are open their usual times until the New Year.

Buses

Christmas Eve: Normal Saturday service until 1800. After this time services will be reduced with no service after 2000. Off-peak fares and concessions apply all day.

Christmas Day: No services

Boxing Day: Only two services running in Calderdale, the 503 Huddersfield-Elland-Halifax and 508 Halifax-Odsal-Dudley Hill-Stanningley-Bramley-Leeds, which will run every half an hour from 9am-6am.

Tuesday 27 December: Sunday service

Wednesday 28, Thursday 29, Friday 30 December - Saturday service.

Trains

Christmas Eve: Normal Saturday service until 2000. After this time services will be reduced with no service after 2200. Off-peak fares and concessions apply all day.

Christmas Day: No services

Boxing Day: No services

Tuesday 27 December: Normal service with some changes before 8am.

Wednesday 28, Thursday 29 and Friday 30 December: Normal service.
