A FUN-PACKED afternoon will help get Halifax dazzling with the town’s Christmas lights switch-on tomorrow.
And switching on the lights wil be celebrity soap star Paul Opacic.
The Halifax-born star has appeared in Emmerdale, Heartbeat, Holby City, The Bill and Waterloo Road but is currently best known for his role as Carl Costello in Hollyoaks.
He will be switching on the lights with Mayor of Calderdale Coun Nader Fekri after an afternoon of festivities, which includes an Alice in Wonderland-themed grotto, fairground rides and performances by Baby Ballet, Bazzmatazz and Strickland Cook.
And Courier readers who have been collecting tokens all week can pick up their free tin of Quality Street on the day.
There will also be entertainment from the cast of Victoria Theatre’s Aladdin and a preview of Square Chapel’s Pinocchio.
Families can also have their picture taken with Santa and his real-life reindeer at the Woolshops before the switch-on at 5pm.
The Courier will have a stand by the stage - with a Mr and Mrs Quality Street - with copies of Saturday’s paper on sale, with the sixth voucher.
Those who have the previous five vouchers can buy the paper and get a free tin of Quality Street.
One set of vouchers is allowed per person and the tins are while stocks last.
The Courier stand will be there from 12.30pm to 6pm - and anyone who buys a copy of the paper from the stand also gets a free mince pie.
Other acts performing at the switch-on include Stage Door Studio Theatre Workshop, Helen O’Hara School of Dance, Strickland Cook Theatre School and the Courier’s 2009 web idol winner Hayley Rose Roberts.
There will also be entertainment from community radio station Phoenix 96.FM.
