An elderly man was rescued from a broken down lift last night (Saturday).

Fire crews from Halifax were called to Copley Mill House sheltered housing at around 8pm.

A West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said the 75-year-old man was in the lift when it stopped working and had become distressed.

Crews managed to isolate the lift and free the man, who was left shaken following the incident.

Firefighters left at around 8.30pm.
