Planning approval to build a new fire station south of Clough Lane, Rastrick, has been put on hold.
Calderdale Council Planning Committee was due to consider the scheme when it met on Tuesday but the application was deferred for administrative reasons.
The new fire station is designed to replace those in Brighouse and Elland, and will lead to the loss of 24 full-time firefighters.
Councillors have welcomed the proposal.
Coun Roger Taylor (Con, Northowram and Shelf) said: “It makes sense logistically and from a practical point of view because these days it is more about fire prevention than fire fighting.”
Elland is classed as low risk and Brighouse as very low risk in respect of fire-related emergencies.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority intends to close 10 stations altogether.
