TWO firefighters tried to rescue a man from a car that crashed in Halifax.
The 64-year-old was in a silver Hyundai Amica travelling towards Browfoot Gate Lane when it hit a dry stone wall and a lamp post on Trimmingham Road, off Warley Road, in Halifax at 2.35pm on Wednesday.
He was taken to Calderdale Royal Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Off-duty firefighter Spencer Greene, from Halifax Fire Station’s blue watch, heard the crash from his home off Trimmingham Road and rushed out to help.
“The car hit the wall and I heard the bang from inside,” he said. “I could see the guy’s head on the dashboard and my first thought was to get him out.
“I tried but his legs were trapped in the dashboard.”
A retired firefighter, who had been travelling behind the car, helped get the driver out of the car and the pair started CPR. They continued until an ambulance responder arrived.
If you saw the crash, call PC Nick Good at the Western Area Roads Policing Unit via 0845 6060606.
