A Stainland factory had to be evacuated on Sunday night after a paper machine caught on fire.

Firefighters fromi Elland, Halifax and Huddersfield attended at the Sonoco factory, Holywell Green, at around 11.20pm.

The entire workforce had been evacuated after flames were seen spilling out of the top of a machine.

Reports suggest at one point a 30ft flame shot out of the machine across the workfloor.

Fire crews used hose reel and four breathing apparatus to tackle the fire and had it under control by 1.15am.

They used fans to clear the factory of smoke but said it may have been some time before staff were able to return to work.
