The first plans for a new multi-million pound retail park have been revealed with the new complex set to open in the summer of 2016.
Gregory Property Group has secured full planning approval to transform the former Dews Motor garage and car showroom site in Bradford Road into a new 33,500 sq. ft. retail scheme.
The Leeds-based developer has agreed terms with two major retail operators to take units of 27,500 sq. ft. and 6,000 sq. ft. and with funding secured for over £5m, the new development is set to start on site in October.
Dews Motor Group recently arranged to sell the site on Bradford Road to Gregory Property Group after announcing plans to move its operation into Halifax, allowing it to operate within a cluster area for vehicle retailing.
Richard Tovey, Director at Gregory Property Group, said, “The profile site is ideally suited to retail development due to its prominent location on Bradford Road and its long frontage.
“We are pleased to have agreed pre lets with strong performing businesses which will be revealed in the coming weeks.”
An anticipated eight month build programme will see completion in the summer of 2016.
Craig Hamer, Managing Director at Dews Motor Group said: “Brighouse holds much sentiment for the Dews family with great history and heritage but it has become necessary to relocate for better operating efficiency.
“We are pleased to hand over the site to a very reputable developer that plans to transform it into a more viable operation and help generate additional employment.”
Gregory Property Group is no stranger to Calderdale since it completed the widely acclaimed £40 million Broad Street Plaza Leisure development in Halifax town centre in 2012.
Plans were approved for the development in May by Calderdale Council.
The retail park will also feature 99 parking spaces, including six disabled people’s parking space.
Planning officers from Calderdale Council who approved the scheme said the ‘anticipated turnover of the total scheme would be in the range of £9.49m and £12.28m’.
