First win for FC Halifax Town

Trafford 1 FC Halifax Town 2 NIGEL Jemson bagged the second-half goal that gave FC Halifax Town their first win of the season.

Jonathan Smith tested home keeper Tom Read from distance early in the game and Junior Brown had an effort saved soon after.

And it was no surprise when Town went ahead in the 25th minute, skipper Steve Payne stabbing the ball home from close range after Trafford had failed to clear a Justin Walker free kick.

Phil Senior saved from Chris Mackay and Andy Lundy at the other end.

But Town could have had a second before the break, Brown having one ruled out for offside and Jonathan Smith curling another just wide.

Lundy and Leon Grandison both went close, while Senior saved well from a Chris Mackay free kick as Trafford started the second half strongly.

But Jemson slid home an Ashley Stott cross to give the Shaymen some breathing space and Billy McCartney's header with eight minutes remaining was only a consolation for the home side.for offside and Jonathan Smith curling another just wide.
