Football - Brighouse League: Gibson hits four as Junction progress
The first semi finalists in the Echo Cup were confirmed as Junction carried out a demolition job on neighbours New Spitfire.
With Junc currently lying second in the league standings and Spitfire fourth, the final score of 9-0 was certainly a far greater margin than predicted.
Former Brighouse Town striker Wayne Gibson plundered four in the mammoth victory, against an out of sort's opponents.
Cole Robinson netted a brace, with Neil Butcher, Mark Baldwin and Emile Di Marco also scoring to highlight the gulf in class on the day.
Two league matches survived the week's deluge, with Eastfield capitalising on Junction's cup exploits to move three points clear at the top of the table.
Buoyed by a double figures victory last time out, opponent's Triangle made things hard for the league leaders, before Field bossed the second period in recording a 7-1 victory.
The table toppers took a first half lead through a combination of Ryan Collins' guile and strength down the left which created a deflected opener for his sibling Wayne.
The Collins brothers were a constant thorn in the side of the spirited visitors with six of Field's seven goals coming from their boots.
Michael Drennan's elusive foot work created his side's next two, both despatched by Wayne Collins, before Ryan Collins netted two, one from distance and another from yet another Drennan assist.
Triangle pulled one back from a set-piece, centre half Richard Riley firing home in the area following a corner, and Ben Brown forced a great save from Charlie Crossley in the Eastfield goal.
Things were wrapped up as Wayne Collins hit his fourth from a Craig Wormald through ball, before Drennan put the icing on the cake with a sublime chip.
On the adjacent pitch at Field Lane, home side Top Club and opponents Pack Horse both put in workmanlike performances in a tightly fought encounter.
Chances were at a premium in the first half, Gary Neill sliding the ball just wide in Pack's best opening, whilst Matthew Townsend in the Southowram side's net had to be on top form to smother a close range effort from lively home striker Adam Booth.
The breakthrough came rapidly into the second half, as Ryan Richards ghosted in off the right to fire home the opener for Pack Horse.
The same player looked to have made things safe for the visitors when he again found space coming in from out wide, this time despatching from a Neill cross.
Top Club showed great resilience and set up a grand stand finish however, as midfield man Matthew Spink struck a goal back – but ultimately the visitors clung on to a valuable three points.
