Football: Goldstars girls get reward for grafting against Saints - with slide show
GREETLAND Goldstars Girls under 12s were made to work hard for their 9-4 success in the first meeting of the season with near rivals Hebden Bridge Saints.
Greetland took an early lead when Beth Leeming scored against her old side. Hebden worked hard, getting to the ball first, and playing some fast attacking football. But, against the run of play, hard working Jade Aitchison slammed home to put the home team two up.
Hebden stepped up their game and two quick goals were no less than their endeavour deserved. Greetland were shaken and after several sweeping moves, Stephi Sawyer scored to put the Stars into an undeserved 3-2 lead at half time.
The situation at the start of the second half improved almost immediately, Katie Wood stroking home to restore the two goal advantage.
Again Hebden came back to score after which Greetland clicked into gear.
Beth Leeming, Sawyer and Chloe Firth netted in quick succession while the Hebden goalkeeper, made several fine saves.
Sawyer and Leeming completed well deserved hat-tricks before Hebden scored a deserved fourth.
GREETLAND Goldstars Girls under 11s gave unbeaten Division Two leaders Goole Town a real game before slipping to a 3-1 defeat.
Greetland opened brightly with some strong defending which seemed to faze the home team as they fell behind to an Anna Parsons goal on the break following some excellent passing.
Goole continued to press but all their efforts where unrewarded thanks to dogged defending by Myers, Sinclair and Player of the Match Dani Whiting.
It was the first time this season that Goole had trailed in a game and unsurprisingly they increased the pressure in the second half.
They soon levelled after which their talented No 9 took the ball to the edge of Greetland's area where she squared for a tap in.
After an excellent save by Chapman, Dani Whiting fizzed a free kick over the defence and into the arms of the keeper before Goole secured their third following a goalmouth scramble.
