Football: McAllister's side ready to strike

LEEDS boss Gary McAllister is ready to unleash the full might of his forward power as his side begin their League One campaign at Scunthorpe tomorrow.

Jermaine Beckford and Enoch Showunmi are favourites to start at Glanford Park following a productive pre-season, although Argentinian forward Luciano Becchio is available again after recovering from a hamstring strain.

Becchio, who scored 28 goals in 50 appearances for Merida last season, was not risked in the warm-up game against FCV Dender last weekend but has reported a clean bill of health to provide McAllister with plenty of exciting forward options.

Meanwhile, McAllister has revealed several players could soon be heading through the Elland Road exit door following his summer re-building programme.

He is also still keeping the identity of his new skipper firmly under wraps.

He said: "I've got it sorted in my mind and will tell the lads. I want 11 leaders in the team though."

Long-serving Fraser Richardson took the armband for the game against Dender but McAllister has refused to confirm who will lead the side tomorrow.

League Two promotion favourites Bradford City start their campaign with a home game against Notts County tomorrow.

The Bantams' have beefed up their squad during the summer, but two of their new recruits are expected to miss out on the opening match.

Striker Michael Boulding, who bagged 25 goals for Mansfield last season, has been sidelined with an ankle injury while former Huddersfield Town man Chris Brandon is also struggling with a similar knock.

Former England under-21 keeper Rhys Evans and new skipper Graeme Lee are among several new faces brought in by manager Stuart McCall as the Bantams look to climb out of the bottom division.

Bradford City from: Evans, Arnison, Lee, Clarke, Heckingbottom, Daley, Bullock, Sharry, Nix, McLaren, Colbeck, Thorne, Conlon, Topp, R Boulding, Bower, Ainge, O'Brien, McLaughlin.
