Football - NCE League: Brighouse look for League Cup upset

BRIGHOUSE Town boss Mark Brier is likely to stick with the squad that won at Grimsby Borough on Saturday for this evening's League Cup second round clash with Liversedge at St Giles Road (7.45).

Town ended a run of four successive defeats with a 2-1 victory in Lincolnshire courtesy of goals from Wayne Crossley and Daryl Leach.

It was a result achieved by hard work and Brier was delighted with his players' efforts.

"I think stability is the key now," he said. "We have to have the core of the side performing well.

"We were not necessarily at our best at the weekend but we worked very hard and that's why we got the result."

Brier is looking forward to coming up against one of his former clubs - he was on the coaching staff at Liversedge before taking on the Brighouse job.

"It will be an interesting game," he said. "It's always a bit strange against one of your former clubs.

"It will also be strange because there are a lot of players here who have been at Liversedge."

Brier added that his side would revel in the fact that they will be underdogs against Premier Division opposition.

"The lads are in good spirits after the weekend," he said. "And for once we will not be expected to win at home.

"Hopefully we can get a result."

Liversedge are mid table in the top flight and drew 2-2 at Dinnington at the weekend.

They have bagged 19 goals in their nine matches and Brier's side will be wary of the likes of Luke Sherman, Paul Walker and Jermaine Moyce who are regular scorers.

Town reached this stage with a penalty shoot out win over first division leaders Askern Villa in round one when Liversedge had a bye.
