Former Elland councillor Ed Waller

Ed Waller, a former councillor and Halifax parliamentary candidate, has died.

Mr Waller was a district councillor in Hertfordshire before moving to Calderdale in the 1990s. He lived at Lane Head, Wheatley, Halifax, and was the Lib-Dem candidate for Halifax in 1997. The following year he became a councillor in Elland ward.

He was born in Shanghai and, during the second World War spent several years in a civilian internment camp following the Japanese invasion. He was a chartered engineer and had worked for Kodak, in Harlow.

Calderdale Lib-Dem leader, Coun Janet Battye, described him as an excellent role model.
