A former Mayoress of Halifax has died aged 99.
Mrs Dora Irene Greenwood JP passed away at her home in Peterborough just short of her century.
She was mayoress for the late Alderman Laura Mitchell from 1967 to 1968.
She followed in the footsteps of her father Alderman F.A. Leach JP - who was Mayor of Halifax in 1933 and 1934 and Freeman of the Borough in 1948.
Mrs Greenwood, along with her father and Alderman Mitchell were life-long supporters of the Labour Party.
In addition to her role as mayoress, Mrs Greenwood was a magistrate on the Halifax bench from1953 to 1976 and served as a co-opted member on the Halifax Education Committee for many years.
She also served as governor for a number of schools throughout Calderdale.
In 1939, Mrs Greenwood married Horace Greenwood, who died in 1967.
After years of vigilant service to her local community Mrs Greenwood left Halifax in 1976 to be near her family in Guisborough.
In 1984 she made the move to Peterborough where she lived until her death.
Loved by her family, she is survived by her son, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
