HALIFAX played host to a Yorkshire bricklayers’ competition – with local talent scooping top awards.
The Guild of Bricklayers’ Competiton was held at North Halifax Skills Centre in Ovenden, with competitors from areas including Calderdale, Leeds, Bradford and Barnsley.
Brett Michael, 18, of North Halifax Construction Skills Academy, won the new-entrant category and Damien France, 18, of Calderdale College, was awarded third place in the senior section.
Masterclasses were also held on the day, including the creation of an aeroplane made of bricks.
Hair and beauty students also offered pampering sessions throughout the day for male competitors.
Andy Jowett, North Halifax construction skills co-ordinator, said: “It was a fantastic day. It’s usually the big colleges who host these competitions, so to get it was like winning the Olympic bid.
“And there were fantastic achievements from people at Calderdale College and North Halifax on the day.”
