Freedom parade for the Dukes arrives in Halifax

Crowds have been gathering to watch the 3rd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment (Duke of Wellington’s) march through the streets of Halifax as part of their Freedom Parade and the ‘Laying up of Colours in Halifax.

The Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Dr Ingrid Roscoe, was in attendance along with the Mayor of Calderdale Ann Martin and other civic heads.

Crowds lined the streets as family and friends gathered in the Piece Hall where there was an inspection, speeches and victory beating by drummers.

The parade then moved onto the Halifax Minster where a service was held to ‘Lay up the Colours’.

So far this week the soldiers from 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment, who are based in Warminster, have marched through towns and cities in South and West Yorkshire, including and Sheffield, Barnsley, Wakefield and Huddersfield.
