A LESBIAN documentary will have its UK premiere in Hebden Bridge tonight.

Jan’s Coming Out is a documentary following the trials and tribulations of Jan, who comes out aged 50.

Hebden Bridge was one of the main locations, but to interview the 36 women featured, the makers of the documentary travelled to West Hollywood in Los Angeles and Provincetown, USA.

Scenes were also filmed in Canal Street, Manchester, from where star of the film Jan Walker hails, and Shibden Hall in Halifax.

Jan, who works as a physiotherapist, met producer Carolyn Reid on a cruise and asked her to be the presenter

Jan, who came out after 23 years of marriage, had a great time filming.

“It was the most empowering experience I have had in my life,” she said.

She is already being recognised as a “celesbian” at events around the world.

During shooting she interviewed women about their experienecs including UK comedian Zoe Lyons and US actors Cathy DeBuono and Jill Bennett.

Praise has already been rolling in for the film, which was hailed a “festival highlight” at the British Film Institute’s London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival.

It has been produced by North East based Village Films.
