A CHARITY night is being held to raise money for a trip to Calderdale for children from Chernobyl.

The Halifax and Bradford link of Chernobyl Childen’s Lifeline organises respite trips for youngsters suffering after the 1986 nuclear catastrophe.

A fundraising event is being held at Halifax Ukrainian Club from 7.30pm on Saturday. It will feature live band Z List and a disco, and there will also be a raffle and food. Entry on the door is £5 under 16s go free.

Money raised will go towards the cost of a visit from eleven children and a leader in July.

Group chairwoman Angela Bottomley said: “The visit gives the children a break from living in a radioactive environment and gives them memories to last a lifetime.”
