Funeral of a former vicar of St Thomas’

THE Rev William Hogan, who was vicar of St Thomas’ Church, Greetland, from 1958 to 1979 has died.

He was born in Burma in 1922 and studied at Rangoon University.

He did his theological training at Queen’s College, Birmingham.

Rev Hogan was a curate at Brighouse Parish Church before moving to Singapore where he lived from 1954 to 1958 and where he was priest-in-charge at St Hilda’s Cathedral.

He was vicar of Kellington with St Edmund’s, Whitley Bridge, near Selby, from 1979 to 1987.

Rev Hogan and his late wife, Catherine, who he married in 1954, had two sons and two daughters.

While in Greetland he also took charge of the former St John’s Church, West Vale, in 1973, when the parishes were united and during his time here he was one of the longest serving clergymen in Calderdale.

His funeral is on Monday, at St Thomas’s Church, Greetland, at 2.45 pm.
