THE funeral takes place on Saturday for former Mayoress of Calderdale, Dorothy O’Connor who died aged 65 at Overgate Hospice, Elland, after an 18-month battle with cancer.

Her husband, ex-councillor Chris O’Connor, was the Mayor of Calderdale in 2001/2.

The couple have three children, Fiona, 38, Alison, 35, and Christopher, 30.

Mrs O’Connor was a teaching assistant at the former Lightcliffe Preparatory School, now known as Hipperholme Grammar Junior School.

She was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 20 years ago and was an active member of the Halifax and Calder Valley Branch Multiple Sclerosis Society, and a former member of Brighouse Light Opera Society.

A service will be held at Christ Church, Hipperholme, on Saturday at 10am, and afterwards at Park Wood, Elland.
