THIS is the blaze started by arsonists that had residents fleeing their homes.

The dramatic picture was taken by 23-year-old Hussnain Ali who tried to warn people living on St Augustine’s Terrace, off Pellon Lane in Halifax, in case the flames spread further.

As reported in yesterday’s Courier, the fire was started after a pile of furniture left out for council collection was set alight at 1.30am on Thursday.

The fire ripped through the door of one house and neighbours came out of their homes when the heat of the blaze cracked their windows.

Resident Zubair Parvez, 19, said the flames reached as high as the attic of the house nearest where the furniture had been piled.

Detectives are still looking for the culprits behind the fire and are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch by calling 01422 337085 or CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

They say there were two other fires in the area at around the same time.

A bin was alight at Kingsbury Place, off Queens Road, and a settee was on fire at Redcar Street, off Hanson Lane.
