Gala committee dish out £5,000 to charities

Scores of clubs and charities have received a cash boost thanks to the money raised by Shelf Gala Committee.

The team gave away thousands of pounds to good causes at it s annual presentation evening at Stone Chair Variety Club.

This year’s event, held in July, collected more than £5,000 which has been dished out between 26 different groups.

They included the Royal British Legion, West Yorkshire Air Ambulance and local football and cricket clubs.

Since it was established in 1959, the committee has expanded its gala giveaway from four different groups to 26.

They also contribute towards a Remebrance Day service.

Margaret Wells, from the committee, said: “It really has grown since we started.

“The presentation evenin was really heartwarming.

“We’ve been able to affect a lot of charities over the years and when you see it for yourself it makes it all worthwhile.”

Shelf Gala Committee meet on the second Monday of every month.

They aim to provide enetertainment for the Shelf community, raise money to donate to groups and charities and provide the opportunity for charities and groups to raise their own funds by havign stalls and games at the galae.

The committee say they are always looking out for new members.
