Gareth Hardy is gearing up for a 200-mile cycle ride from London to Halifax, in 24 hours.

The 32-year-old of Pellon is hoping to raise £800 for the Vibe Youth Group which meets on a Friday night at New Ebenezer.

Gareth will leave Kings Cross Station today (Friday) at around 2pm and will cycle back to Halifax through the night.

He has already reached the £600 mark which he is thrilled with but would love to raise more.

“I have been preparing by doing two bike rides to Sheffield and back,” he said. “Last year I cycled to Wolverhampton and raised £500 for a pool table for the youth club so I wanted to keep doing fund-raising for them.

“I do go to the gym but I have been trying to slow down so I don’t overdo it before. I am positive it will all go well and I will reach my target.”

Last year Gareth spent three months sleeping rough in a cupboard box after falling victim to the credit crunch. He secured a place at a Christian community house and now runs his own painting and decorating business.
