Calderdale’s community heroes were celebrated at a glittering ceremony at the Courier Community Spirit Awards 2015.

The night championed those individuals, charities and organisations working to make our borough brilliant.

Held in partnership with the Community Foundation for Calderdale, our annual awards evening is a well-deserved showcase for the people who make Calderdale the caring, creative and conscientious place we all know and love.

Bertie’s @ La Cachette, Elland, was the host for the night and showered our shorlisted guests with the grandeur they deserve.

The evening was introduced by Courier editor John Kenealy, who welcomed all in attendance and praised the guests in the room for the vital work they carry out across Calderdale.

Steve Duncan, chief executive officer of Community Foundation for Calderdale and awards judge, said: “It was a really uplifting evening and it’s really just great to recognise people that don’t really want the recognition.

“It’s good to put them on a pedestal for a few minutes and say a big thank you. People are just doing great things, they are just getting on with it and transforming people’s lives.

“It’s great to be a part of Calderdale.”

There were twelve categories, all with exceptional shortlisted nominees and winners.

Our host for the evening was Yorkshire’s much-loved BBC breakfast presenter Clare Frisby, who shared inspirational insights into the tireless work and achievements of those nominated.

Bertie’s Banqueting Room buzzed with incredible stories - all our shortlisted nominees are true winners and the ethos of the Community Spirit Awards is to show our appreciation for the wonderful work each is achieving in Calderdale.

Thank you to all those who made nominations and special thanks to our sponsors: Berties @ La Cachette, Stone Dam Furniture, Riley and Co, Harveys of Halifax, Pennine Housing, The New Hobbit Hotel, Community Foundation for Calderdale, Suma Wholefoods, The Leo Group, Calderdale Home Care, Gordon Rigg Garden Centres and First Buses.

Without their support, this fantastic evening would not be possible.
