Hannah Cockroft is the new patron of Calderdale’s special high school Ravenscliffe.
The Paralympic double gold medallist has lent her support to help build a new sixth-form site for Ravenscliffe pupils at nearby Spring Hall, Huddersfield Road, Halifax.
The sixth-form come community hub will boast a contemporary and independent learning site for students as well as offering community facilities such as a cafe for people using the athletics track. But the project needs £1.5m in addition to council funding. The school is calling on its community to back the build.
Hannah Cockroft MBE said: “The Ravenscliffe@SpringHall project is more than building a sixth-form in Halifax centre. The refurbishment will benefit every school, athlete and community in Calderdale.
“It’s the perfect space for a school in need of space and for future Yorkshire champions to have a piece of gold in their town centre.”
Headteacher Martin Moorman said: “We’re delighted a local and national heroine is our patron. As a former Spring Hall user she is vital in our vision to make Ravenscliffe@SpringHall a reality.
