Golf - Skip blown away

Hebden Bridge's Scratch team were beaten 6-2 by a strong Meltham side, all four of whose players hold a two handicap.

And with young guns Adam Cryer and George Bamford missing, it was down to the old guard of Iain Powell, Paul Richardson, Jonathan Sutcliffe and club veteran John Gumbley to take up the challenge

Powell took control of his game, running out a 5&4 winner against fellow Union player Graham McClean.

Captain Paul Richardson struggled to penetrate the blustery conditions before eventually being beaten 6&5 by Anton Shears.

The windy conditions didn't help Jonathan Sutcliffe's rhythmical swing either. He was quickly behind Roger Hunt and although he put up a brave fight he succumbed 3&2.

The toughest task fell to John Gumbley who had drawn the District's number one junior player in 16-year-old Jamie Bower who duly completed victory on the 17th.
