TODAY is a special day for grandad-of-two Brian Moore – he turns 15!
Mr Moore, of North Edge Park, Hipperholme, was born on a February 29 60 years ago, so has only celebrated his real birthday 15 times. He joins a select few – the odds of being born on a leap day are one in 1,500.
Mr Moore said he quite enjoyed the special date growing up, as it meant he had two birthdays.
He said: “I would celebrate on the 29th on a leap year but I would also celebrate on the 1st, so I got two birthdays every four years.”
Mr Moore said the novelty of a leap year has worn off a little as he’d got older, but children at Lightcliffe Primary School – where he has worked as a caretaker for 32 years – often helped him celebrate on the day.
And with this year being his 60th, it will be extra special.
He said: “My wife Yvonne keeps having secret talks in the garage with my daughters. I don’t know what’s planned.
“But I know in June, my wife and I are going on a cruise to celebrate my 60th and us being married 40 years.”
Mr Moore shares the same February 29 birthday as footballers Darren Ambrose (1984) and Scott Golbourne (1988), pictured left, who were also Leap Year babies.
