Guiseley 1 FC Halifax Town 0: Vince upbeat despite defeat

JIM Vince refused to feel downhearted despite watching his side slip to a narrow defeat at Nethermoor.

The Halifax boss was pleased with aspects of his side's game on a surface made slippery by rain prior to kick-off.

"At this stage, the result isn't important and I was pleased with certain aspects of our game," said Vince.

"It is a progression and we have certainly been making progress."

Injuries to striker Ryan Sugden before the game and defender Thomas Harban during it did not help the cause as Halifax faded in the second half of what turned out to be a largely free-flowing and enjoyable contest.

The game looked likely to be a tale of two goalkeepers with Guiseley stopper Piotr Skiba keeping out Neil Ross's penalty in the first half and Halifax keeper Phil Senior doing the same to deny diminutive striker David Brownfrom the spot in the second period.

However, Brown had the final say when, midway through the second half, he latched onto a long punt upfield, skilfully took the ball around substitute keeper Craig Mawson and netted the game's only goal from a tight angle.

Halifax introduced new signing Ashley Stott and he proved to have plenty of pace although found his chances to impress in front of goal limited.
