Gymnastics: Diamonds benefit from revamp

THE new facility at Diamonds Gymnastics Club is now fully equipped, thanks to a generous donation of £20,000 from the Provincial Grand Lodge of West Yorkshire.

The completed facility now ranks as one of the best in the country, boasting, amongst other items, two and a half fully sprung floor areas, trampolines, the only in floor fast track in Yorkshire and three fully pitted areas.

Bill Smithies of Diamonds Gym Club said, "We applied for a grant from the Freemasons several months ago but did not expect anything like the amount we received."

The Women's Artistic members of the club have recently being putting their new training equipment to good use in preparation for competitions.

At the Yorkshire Level 4 competition, Erin Sorton (12), Rio Alexis (11) and Mackenzie Brook (13) all competed for the first time at this level. Alexis won silver on the floor proving to be the highlight of the day.

At Yorkshire Level 5, Lauren Broadbent, Victoria Clay and Aisling Dunn (all aged 10) enjoyed a successful trip to York. All three performed clean routines, with Broadbent becoming Yorkshire Beam Champion at this level.

At the Yorkshire Level 7 competition, Diamonds were represented by 17 gymnasts who were all participating in their first ever competition.

In the 11/12 year old category were Lucy Puddephatt, Eva Lawrence and Neva Thomas. In the 9/10 year old category were Charlotte Bostock, Charlotte Townend, Amy Thompson, Ciara Dyson, Sarah Salsbury and Hope Porter. Finally, in the 7/8 year old category were Hannah Charlesworth, Bethany Midgley, Charlotte Wood, Katy Wood, Cameron Drake, Jessica Rayner, Millie Hiley and Tia Rotherforth.
