Halifax chippy comes first plaice

A Pellon fish and chip shop battered other chippies to be crowned Calderdale’s Chip Shop of the Year - in a Courier competition.

You voted - and the Cod Father of all chippies 2o15 was revealed as Brackenbed Fisheries, Spring Hall Lane, Halifax.

First plaice winner and Brackenbed Fisheries owner Mark Kosanovic, whose owned the business for 13 years, said: “I’m delighted we’ve won. It’s the second year running we’ve won this and it certainly helps for business. Our secret to success is great customer service and good ingredients . Thank you to everyone who voted for us.”

Mr Kosanovic said his fish and chips are “light, crispy and delicious.”

In second plaice, Mixenden Fisheries, Clough Lane, Mixenden, owner Garry Lawton, said: “It’s great to get some good news coming out ocf Mixenden. It’s the first time we’ve been nominated for this. Our special batter mix is a favourite with customers. Thanks to everyone who voted.”
