A happy Yorkshire Day to all our readers - and roll on August 1, 2016, when Halifax will take the lead in the county celebrations!

Halifax Town Hall is flying the flag today and the council has announced the town will host the official Yorkshire Day celebrations in three years’ time.

Events are taking place all across the region with Skipton this year’s chosen centrepiece.

When it’s our turn we will be showcasing the redeveloped town centre and most notably the transformed Piece Hall.

The Mayor of Calderdale, Coun Ann Martin, said: “Yorkshire people quite rightly have a lot of pride for their county, and Yorkshire Day gives everyone a chance to demonstrate this.

“It’s also fantastic news that Calderdale will be leading the celebrations in 2016 – hosting events and showing off the work that will have been done in Halifax town centre”

Council leader Tim Swift echoed those views and said he was really pleased with the opportunity to showcase Halifax.
