A Halifaxc-born jump jockey who was paralysed from the neck down following a fall 23 years ago has died.

Sharron Murgatroyd, who suffered a heart attack earlier in the week, died on Friday night at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.

The 54-year-old was left paralysed from the neck down following the fall at the final hurdle at Bangor in 1991, She defied doctors’ prognosis and never let her condition beat her. She raised thousands of pounds for charity and was a published author and poet.
