The Vicar of Halifax cycled 130 miles - around the major churches, including Ripon Cathedral, pictured, in the diocese to raise funds towards a new sound system at the minster.

The Revd Canon Hilary Barber was joined on the two-day bike ride by his 13-year-old son Joshua and minster curators Matthew Hunter and Jonathan Bish.

The Revd Canon Hilary Barber said: “It was toughs - there were highs and lows. But we made it and raised £2,000 more than we had before we began cycling.”

To install a sound system so the minster can broadcast the church must raise £80,000 - to date £50,000 has been raised.
